Forbes Highest Paid Hip Hop Artists – 2014

 This list complied by Forbes is an estimation of earnings of major Hip Hop artists by taking into consideration their income from gig shows, album sales, merchandising and other endorsements. The data used was sourced from Pollstar, the RIAA and Nielsen Soundscan, along with interviews with managers, lawyers and some of the artists themselves. 

1- Dr. Dre – $620 Million 

After a phenomenal sale of Beats, the mega headphone brand, to Apple, for an enormous sum of $3 Billion, Dr Dre is the highest earning entertainer to ever be evaluated by Forbes. His wealth assimilated is more than the total of any other cash-king artist on this list. 

2- Jay Z (tie) – $60 Million

Jay Z’s latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail went platinum before it even got released. He signed an agreement with Samsung to sell them 1 million copies. Numerous concerts, branded cognac and record deals means that Jay Z acquired a highly desired spot on this list.

2- Diddy (tie) – $60 Million

Tied for the 2nd place is Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The bulk of his income came from his agreement with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka. There were other sources too such as his own DeLeon tequila, Blue Flame Marketing, Sean Jean clothing and Revolt TV, that provided the additional boost to his revenue.

4- Drake -$33 Million

Drake’s fourth album which sold four million copies along with his tours and endorsement deals with Nike’s Jordan trainers increased his income three fold since 2013. 

5- Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – $32 Million

After bagging seven Grammy awards which included best New Artist and best New Album in 2014, increased the value of the duo and tripled their earnings of last year.

6- Kanye West – $30 Million

Kanye West’s marriage to the curvaceous Kim Kardashian kept him at the front of everyone’s attention. His income soared by 50% through his exciting new Yeezus tour. 

7- Birdman – $24 Million

The co-chief of the most successful record label in hip hop YMCMB, Birdman is rising. He has recorded sounds with Lil Wayne and Big Tymers. 

8- Lil Wayne – $23 Million

Increasing his earnings by 50% by playing at 56 shows, Lil Wayne has his eyes set on touring with Drake on Street-Fighter themed tour this year. 

9- Pharell Williams – $22 Million

Bringing out huge summer tunes such as ‘Happy’ and ‘Get Lucky’, Pharell Williams minted from the glorious reception of his music. The fashionista sold his hat his wore to the Grammy’s for an auction of $44,000 in the name of charity. 

10- Eminem – $18 Million

Eminem is set to go on the massive Monster tour with Rihanna this year which will add substantially to his wealth amassed in 2014.
